Good Friday? Great a day off
work!
|
| But it wasn't
such a great day two thousand years ago for a certain man who
was tortured and nailed to a cross. Was he mad to choose to die
this way? Yes, I say "choose" because he could have got off
had he wanted to.
|
| So, who was he? Simple
carpenter? Good moral teacher? Son of God? Many theories abound
but only one rings true. | |
| "I am trying here to prevent
anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say
about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher,
but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’ That is the one thing
we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of
things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would
either be a lunatic—on a level with the man who says he is a
poached egg—or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make
your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or
else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a
fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can
fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come
with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human
teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

Some say he was God come to earth
as a man.
Some say God came to feel our pain and identify with our
suffering.
Some say God loved us so fiercely that even the terrible pain of
crucifixion could not stop him.
Some say God holds out his hand to man and invites him into
eternity with him.

| "Greater love has no one than this, that he
lay down his life for his friends." ~ Jesus (John 15:13 [The
Bible]) |
| I put it to you that this Jesus who has
influenced world history more than any other is the Son of God who
was sent to reconcile Us with God. He was sent to take our
punishment for sin upon himself so that we could be free to know our
loving father in heaven. |
| I put to you that this
Jesus not only died but rose again on the third day. But don't just
take my word for it, why not take a chance and live on the edge? Why
not ask Jesus himself? Why not find a quite place and from your
heart ask Jesus to reveal himself to you and then wait and see what
happens.

| And Jesus Christ our Lord was shown to be the Son of God when God
powerfully raised him from the dead by means of the Holy Spirit.
Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority to tell
Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will
believe and obey him, (Romans 1:4-5 [The Bible])

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary
Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a
violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven
and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His
appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like
dead men.
The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know
that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here;
he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead
and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now
I have told you."
So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled
with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them.
"Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and
worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and
tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."
(Matthew 28:1-10 [The Bible])
